Backing & custody. The gold behind PAXG is held by Paxos, a New York-regulated trust company, in LBMA-accredited vaults, with the bar list published. Your PAXG is only as good as that custodian and its vaulting arrangements — a tokenized claim on metal, not the metal in your own possession.

What it is

Pax Gold (PAXG) is a token where each unit represents ownership of one fine troy ounce of physical gold, so its price tracks the gold market. It lets people hold gold exposure on a blockchain.

How it works

The issuer, Paxos, holds allocated London Good Delivery gold bars in professional vaults, and each PAXG is a claim on that metal. Holders of enough PAXG can, in principle, redeem for physical gold or its cash value.

Why it matters

PAXG bridges the oldest store of value — gold — and the newest rails. It is distinct from "spot gold" prices: it is a specific company's tokenized claim on specific bars, not the metals market in the abstract.

Honest risk note

PAXG carries the price risk of gold plus the counterparty risk of its issuer and custodian. It is not the same as holding physical gold yourself, and redemption is subject to the issuer's terms and minimums.
