Central bank digital currency
e-CNY (Digital Yuan) ECNY
China's central bank digital currency — a digital form of the yuan.
Pegged 1:1 to the Chinese yuan (CNY) — definitional, not market-traded This is educational reference, not a priced or tradable asset — there is no market price to show.
What it is
The e-CNY (digital yuan) is China's central bank digital currency, issued by the People's Bank of China. Like the Digital Dirham it is official digital money, pegged one-to-one to the national currency — one e-CNY equals one yuan, by definition.
How it works
The e-CNY is distributed through banks and payment apps and used for everyday retail payments. It is a direct claim on the central bank, not a market-traded token, and carries no independent price.
Why it matters
The e-CNY is one of the most advanced large-economy CBDC programmes and a key reference point for how digital public money can work at scale. It is included here for education, not as a tradable asset.
What to watch
There is no market or price risk — its value is fixed to the yuan. As with any CBDC, the substantive questions are about policy and design rather than volatility.
