UAE→Nepal is a major remittance route — and a rare case where the destination currency reaches the dollar through the Indian rupee.

A large Nepali community works in the UAE, and the World Bank ranks the UAE among the top sources of remittances to Nepal — so AED→NPR is checked constantly by families sending money home.

Structurally, the dirham is pegged to the US dollar at 3.6725 by the Central Bank of the UAE, while the Nepalese rupee is pegged to the Indian rupee at 1.60 by Nepal Rastra Bank, and the Indian rupee floats under the Reserve Bank of India. So the Nepalese rupee reaches the dollar — and the dirham — through the Indian rupee: AED→NPR moves with the US dollar’s value against the Indian rupee.
